Already Missing Julie Brown and Tim Chapparo

You will be sorely missed!

Julie Brown, the ALC San Francisco Manager of Recruitment, Training and Special Events.  Julie has been involved with AIDS/LifeCycle since 2003 when she rode in AIDS/LifeCycle 2.  She's been a Training Ride Leader (TRL) for 11 seasons now, and also oversees the recruitment and outreach activities as well as pre-ride events for AIDS/LifeCycle participants in Northern California.

Tim Chapparo, Senior Cyclist Rep, cycled his first ride for AIDS/LifeCycle 11 - and he rode every mile! In all honesty, he had no idea what he was getting himself into. Yes, he rode training rides before, but never anything beyond 40 miles. He did teach indoor cycle classes, but those classes do not have headwinds or speeding cars around you. Going into the event he only knew a few riders, he was a newbie and he hated spandex. In the end, that week in June became one of the best weeks of his life.

He will never forget those special moments he had on that ride- burgers with the kids at Bradley, meeting some amazing friends, the candlelight vigil in Ventura, surviving day two and quadbuster, and riding into Los Angeles. Through all the laughs, the tears, the sweat, and Disney songs came this sense of accomplishment. He felt empowered, not only because he rode his bike 545 miles, but because he was doing it for such an amazing cause. He felt passion coming from a community which he is now so proud to be a part of. Most importantly the ride gave him a feeling of purpose, a purpose greater than himself, one in which stays with him to this day.
